On top of the clock at the bottom of City Hall Park lives Uncle Totti, a very mysterious and elusive sparrow. His cousin, Tancredi, helps Kalandaka and his friends as they travel uptown. (Extract from Chapter "February 26th, day")

To their left was a large park sitting below the white colonial style New York City Hall. Below them was the intersection of Broadway and Park Row, which the squirrels agreed was the widest stretch of road they had ever seen.Almost in the middle of the intersection, on a small island of its own, was a small clock tower with four large white illuminated faces telling the area it was nearly half past three in the morning.

“That’s my Uncle Tottis!” shouted Tancredi excitedly and he hopped up and down making the branch the three squirrels were sitting on sway a little. “He’s got a little place on top there. He can see every comings and goings, and he likes to know the time and what’s what and what’s where.”

“Must be really noisy” said Funni “what with the clock and the traffic.”

“Maybe” mused Tancredi “but Uncle Totti says the traffic keeps unwanted visitors away, plus he doesn’t have to deal too much with those squirrelys from City Hall.
