At City Hall Park Kalandaka and his friends find themselves in the middle of an election. The discussions are held in the large "debating tree" where each squirrel candidate gets to speak his case to the rest of the community, but as usual in politics things are never quite as they seem. (Extract from Chapter "February 25th")

“To tell the truth” replied Orav “Squirrels are fickle, often insensitive and always very selfish beasts.”

Orav’s expression sunk as he spoke. The weariness on his face became more noticeable. “Most don’t even care or consider what will happen to society without good forward planning. At best a minority of squirrels might think ahead for the coming months, the vast majority don’t look further than the end of the week. The future is, by its very nature, uncertain and it scares them all. It’s my job and…………” he sighed heavily, “my burden to think for them. To plan ahead for them. To worry for them.”

“If you don’t like the job, why are you trying to get elected again?” asked Funni.

Orav blinked and raised his arms in the air in frustration “Because if that good for nothing, scheming brother of mine gets elected tomorrow he will turn City Hall Park into an open air casino.”
